Default Road Glide windshield "rubber trim" question

OK, all you Raod Glide lovers - has anyone found a "trick" to keep the rubber trim at the base of the windshield from drooping down. Been told this is a common problem?

I think it's more of a problem since they changed to the new style fairing in '04. I never had the problem with my '02, but I have it on my '05 and see it all the time.

Take your windshield off, then remove the trim strip. Put a small dab of Shoe-Go in the groove on the trim at one end, center up the trim, then put a small dab about every 6" ~ 8". It does not take much, just a little will last until you pull it apart. If / when you need to remove it, it's pulls apart and and cleans up easily.

Take your time. It will be worth it.

Terry mentioned this in a previous thread, but it's a good idea to have a couple spare fairing nuts - the rubber mounted inserts that the windshield screws into.

Buy a Clearview shield and it comes with a much better rubber trim piece. I kept having the same problem with the stock shield but none at all with the Clearview.

Make sure ur assembled correctly. There is a rubber washer and a plastic washer. Plastic washer goes on the outside of windshield, rubber washer inside of windshield. The more you tighten the screw, the more it pulls the wellnut up against the inside fairing.
Hence, pinching the windshield tighter. Of course, before tightening, make sure the rubber trim IS tucked in properly being pinched between fairing and windshield.

Or, go away from the rubber gasket and buy the new Road Glide trim piece that Harley is offering. Looks real nice on the front of the bike.
