Default GPS info please

I realize the Zumo 550 is the GPS to have for motorcycle travel.&nbsp\\; However 800 bucks plus is a little expensive.&nbsp\\; I have seen many in the 300 to 400 dollar range.&nbsp\\; Do I really have to spend 800 bucks to get a good GPS or will some of the others work well
TomTom, Magellen, etc
&nbsp\\;
Thanks,
Doug

Never owned a Tom-Tom, primarily because of the trouble others had with 'em. TVNAV.COM offers the 2610 refurbished for 'bout $200 - it's a VERY good GPS IMO.

Most of them work, it's all about features, convenience and weatherproofing. I just got rid of a Magellan and bought the 550 Zumo for 449 from BestBuy.&nbsp\\;

NO ONE pays $800 for the zumo 550. When you think about saving money, also consider whether the GPS you are buying is shock and vibration resistant and whether it is waterproof. Most are not, the zumo Series units are.

Friend of mine bought a refurb'd 2610 off ebay last month, with a one year warranty for $159.00.&nbsp\\; I've got the same model and am happy with it.

Any GPS will work on a bike when it's dry.

Zumo to ride in the rain and press buttons with gloves on. There is a couple posts on the forum of people getting the Zumo 550 for $450 at Best Buy. Do a search.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 660, has all the bells and whistles except waterproofing.
I used the automotive mount with the disc attached to my Ultras fuel lid and put well over 2000 miles so far this year with no problems. I did always get it out of wet weather though. I'd have no problem buying an even cheaper Garmin unit and doing the same thing.

The convenience of GPS is amazing. Problem is, once I set a destination I just listened to the unit and never really knew where the hell I was until I got there! You get kinda lazy.
