The Screaming Eagle Breather kit comes with the K&N washable air filter element as part of the Stage I kit. You need to purchase the cleaner and oil seperately but they are pretty cheap. You can pick up a kit for about 10 bucks. You should not need to buy a new filter element unless the old one gets damaged in some way. They last for years.

Hope this helps.

So I can get away with just getting the k&n replacement filter instead of the breather kit.

Why , You gonna modify the backing plate for more air ?

According to my dealer. the K&N filter fits the stock air cleaner and backplate assembly without any modifications. The K&N will pass 50% more air than stock - so, I had them install it. So far, I am very pleased with the performance of the stock TC88 motor and Screamin' Eagle "off road" exhaust slip ons. Of course, I have only been using the package "off road" (yeah, right). [8D] I now have 160 miles on the RK since I picked it up Friday, noon. Having a blast, too (off road).

Until recently, S-E a/c kits used an original K & N (oiled fabric) element right out of the box.
However, for the TC88, a new part number has appeared, denoting a new element and back plate.

The new element is washable, but non-oiled. The new element can be identified by it's blue sealing gasket.
The new backplate is a die-casting that eliminates the previous seperate bits of breather hardware.
The breather plumbing is now integrated in the backplate casting.
Once dealer's shelves are cleared of the old style, expect to find the only the new version.
Part # for the new kit is: 29440-00C

Ted,

Even if it will fit, how is it going to pass more air if you don't drill holes in the housing behind it?

I agree with Homer, I think you will have to modify the housing/backplate.

Regards,

Bill

Had the SE/K&N installed on my 05 FLHTCUI...no back plate at all and it breathes great. I think you can just trash the backlplate since the set up is pretty much designed to be used w/o it.
