Replaced my stock stereo with a Sony Head unit and now the Hogtune speakers can't seem to handle the volume level the Sony unit puts out. Before, with the stock HK stereo, I could turn the volume all the way up and get no speaker distortion. Now, with the Sony unit, if I turn the volume up half way the speakers start to distort and can't seem to handle the bass and volume level. Anyone got any recommendations for other speakers that can handle more?? Is it impossible to find a 5 1/4" speaker that can handle the unit output?
\\;Hog Tunes are a 2 ohm system. They only rate 45 watts continus which is not much power. Check out the J&\\;M speakers there rated for 140 watts.
The Hogtunes are the older 4 ohm speakers not the 2 ohm version. I got them before Hog tunes came out with the 2 ohms for the HK. I ran them for the past 2+ years with the HK system w/o problems. So it's not a mismatch on the ohms...
2 ohms allow more power than 4 not less. the jm speakers are 140 watts peak not rms. most 5.25 speakers run around 20 watts rms you can go to a set of componets like jl audio with crossovers and get 100 wattts rms
O.K., I'm not an audio guy so by replacing my stock HK unit with a Sony head unit, the Hogtune speakers don't cut it. I believe the Sony unit requires 4 ohm speakers? Should I be running a system with crossovers? Are the Sony X-plode speakers the way to go??
you do need to match the ohms of the radio with the speakers. by using separate tweeters and mids with crossovers you can allow the freq range to be fine tuned thus allowing more power. for the sony unit any 5.25 speaker with approx 40 rms wattage should suffice
Well the first place to start would be Ohns matching. Then you need to know RMS per channel of the new unit. Youll want your speakers to handle MAX OUTPUT.
