RE: 08 Fuel filter shell failure
More MoCo crap parts - wonder who/how long tests this stuff. Being an older engineer, IMO really wonder about the young engineering community as a whole (more focused on shaving a couple cents here and there, than realiability) - not just MoCo, but everywhere. I think we've become too smart for our own good.

RE: 08 Fuel filter shell failure
My Bro's Road King quit on him just last week 'cause of this. Since mine was goin' in for it's 1k service anyway, I had them replace the shell. IMO the $32.00 was worth my \\;peace of mind. Just kinda makes me question the MOCO's QC/QA.........

RE: 08 Fuel filter shell failure
I call on a lot of engineers in different industrial environments. Most of them are managers...not designers. Remember, it's all about saving money now...cutting costs. Remember when a Buick was a great car? You know, something to be proud of?

RE: 08 Fuel filter shell failure
I changed mine last night, pretty easy job. Naturally, this morning I checked the forum and found that Harley \\;has issued a safety recall on the filter shell. Oh, well, at least I won't be stranded on the way to Sturgis. Later today I went to the dealer and they offered to reimburse me for what I paid for the new shell. And, no, I don't call mine a "stealer".

It does happen. I was riding with a guy Sunday that had a 08 street glide and the bike just \\;coughed, back fired and stopped. He had to get the bike towed to a dealer. I got a fuel shell immediately the next day and installed it in less than a hour. The old shell had stress fractures on the taps and probably will have eventually snapped.

RE: 08 Fuel filter shell failure
Mine did it tonight.......08 Ultra\\\\\\;2 weeks ago went to Maine and the east coast from Ohio and ran great 2200 miles but tonight going to a local festival 5 miles away it quit \\;\\\\\\;... The bike has 10490 miles at failure. I'm sure its the fuel canister because the fuel pump runs but cant hold pressure ... Called Hog and had a tow service there about 1hr 30 min later to take me home 4 miles away. I will call the dealer tomorrow to see the next step for repair. \\;\\\\\\;BUMMED now,, \\;\\\\\\;had a poker run set for Sunday first weekend both wife and I can go together this year because of work.. and now cant go. \\;\\\\\\; ... \\;\\\\\\; Hog said if I was 100 miles from home they would give me $1000.00 for rental bike till mine was reapired but since I am close to home no rental benifits applys That \\;\\\\\\;sucks!!...... but thats the fine print. Hope they can fix it soon..

RE: 08 Fuel filter shell failure
I have a 2008 Street Glide. Took it in to dealer for air cleaner, exhaust, and tuner upgrade. He told me about this issue from his computer saying my bike came up as needing the fuel shell replaced. My bike was built in 10/07. To date, still haven't received any notice from H-D about it, but it's replaced now.
