Default Flying Windshield

A friend was telling me he got cought in a storm & pulled over under an overpass to wait out the hail. As he pulled over a large gust of wind took his windshield right off & down the road. Has anyone else encountered this or is this a fluke?

The day I picked up my 03 road king (a real windy day) the dealership said I should ride home without the windshield because just this sort of thing could happen.

I'm hoping he didn't have the locks secured all the way. sometimes I have to push a little extra hard to get the locks to latch complete.

I have a detachable windshield and have ridden in some terrible winds through Wyoming and Utah without the thing ever even budging. I have never seen nor heard of such a thing. As for the dealer, mine suggested the shield for long cross country trips to protect me from the wind, and the things flying around in it. Not to protect the shield from the wind.[sm=bangbang.gif]

We have been in a lot of strong winds and other storms, and have never had a wind shield leave the bike. If it was a quick detach, it might not have been latched good. If it was a solid mount, that was some wind.

regards,

Bill

I've never heard of a windshield being taken off a bike by wind. Was it a tornado? Mine seems very secure.
Maybe it was not mounted properly.

Kind of have to wonder what is the point of a windshield then...
