I guess I could see the ws blowing off in a strong enough wind if the bike was at a stop, and the wind blowing in hard enough from behind you; maybe a thought to add some kind of fishing line, or something like that, to the clips that latch in.

 

I take it we are talking of a Roadking windshield. I always make sure the locking tabs have enough bend in them to lock the shield in place. I have been through alot of windgust, once having a gust take my wifes sunglasses from her out in South Dakota. It was a strange burst, but I never had any problems with the shield.

 

Guess they know their technicians and their ability.....

 

I too have been in some serious winds, never lost the windshield though. With 30,000 on my 01 FLHR, I replaced the windshield gromets to insure a snug fit. The hot, dry climate around here is murder on the rubber stuff...

 

What material did you replace them with?

 

Stock replacement. The original ones had just began to crack...

A windshield blowing off is obviously from poor workmanship or improper fastening. I would be hard pressed to believe that it just wore out or whatever. Stranger **** has happened though. I have had my aircleaner cover on my Indian fall off doing 80 on the highway with a passenger and I actually caught the damn thing down at my floorboards and didnt scratch it one bit. Damn near made the little honey on the back seat soil herself though when I leaned over and scooped it off of my feet [8D][8D][sm=badidea.gif]
It was due to no loctitie being used by the mechanic as I was leaving from a service when it happened. Shitty mechs everywhere especially in the HD shops. If you ever find a good one follow him wherever he goes![sm=goodidea.gif][sm=goodidea.gif]

 

On my 2005 Road King the windshield seems to fit very snug. I traded in an '02 Deuce on it and the whole time I had it I worried about the windshield falling off as if you pushed just slightly forward it would pop right off so I safety wired it on where it attached on the rubber grommets. This kept it from coming loose and was easy to cut loose and re-safety wire when needed.
