RE: Is 85-90 mph too fast for my 5-speed?
I just did about 300 miles this weekend and the last leg was all highway, going about 65 - 85 depending on traffic. \\; The bike ran great, seemsed to be fine. \\; When I have time and 2K I may get a 6 speed trans but I wouldn't worry about it. \\; Last year I did a trip about as long and the way home it was very late, avergaed about 95 MPH accouding to the NJ state police... \\; The bike ran great then too, the cop is a different story.

My 02 had a sweet spot at 75 mph on up to 80. Beyond that it was working pretty hard. But it was an Ultra, pushing the fairing and lowers with no vents. I did a 5500 mile trip to Michigan/Ohio on her, and ran mostly 75, got 42 mpg (solo).
 \\;
My 07 with its six speed doesn't hesitate one bit running up to 100 mph, and feels as good at 90 as it does at 70. For mileage, I run 70-75 mostly.

I ran my 03 fatboy up hiway 395 from Los Angeles to Seattle via Portland at 75-85 MPH the whole way and it didn't seem to mind at all. Averaged about 40 mpg amd didn't get hot or anything. I test rode an Ultlra today and you have to get it up to over 70 before 6th gear is useful IMO.

3k over 3 weekends on an Stock 80" Evo with a 5 speed. \\; Ran 70 to 90 and rpms for the majority of all the rides and was spinning from 3k to 4k on the tach all the time. \\; If my 19 year old sled can do it with no problems, yours \\;definitly can.
