Oil change?

I ditch my oil about every 3000 miles or so. I never keep an accurate estimate of mileage, but it's certainly sooner than 5000 miles.
I run Red Line fluids, all 3 holes.
6 1/2 qts. Oil
1 qt. Primary
22 oz. Tranny
And last but not least, a groovy K&\\;\\\\\\;N oil filter with that cute, yet \\;\\\\\\;worthless, 17mm nut on the end.
 \\;\\\\\\;
Chrome, of course!

RE: Oil change?
I go 5000 between changes and the same with my Evo. Never had an engine problem and used HD 20-50 in Evo until recently. Definitely do not go 5k before first oil change though. Follow the owner's manual and/or service manual. Works for me.

We use too damn much oil in this country as it is.

RE: Oil change?
5k between changes is ok, in fact most synthetics will actuall maintain their lubricating characteristics long beyond that. \\; The key is the filter, you do need to change them regularly, and again, in most cases 5k miles is adequate. \\; I have put 9k miles on my bike in the last two months, no way am I gonna change oil every 3k, even on this big motor. \\; I trust the studies done by the manufacturers and their recommendations. \\; No-one is going to make a recommendation in print, then have to go to court and defend their statements due to engines grenading due to oil related failures. \\;  \\; I change oil and filter at 5k, primary and tranny at 10k. \\; When I built the engine, I did change the oil and filter \\;at 50, 100 and 500 to ensure I had caught any possible contaminants that might be lurking in the nooks and crannies after boring and clearancing the cases.
 \\;
Yes, \\; It is an air cooled engine, but if properly tuned, it will not see temps any higher than that of a watercooled auto engine and oil change intervals keep getting extended for those. \\; Diesels (severe duty) regularly go 10k - 20k+ miles, again, the key being that they have a very good filtration system.

I don't what he's certified in, but it ain't in engine longevity. \\;\\\\\\; He's smokin' crack if he thinks MOCO 20-50 will do the job after 5000 miles.  \\;\\\\\\; It's too long in my opinion even for synthetic. \\;\\\\\\; To each his own, but go turn the key on his bike and see how many miles he's got. \\;\\\\\\; That counsel is NOT wise, but then again, it's your motor.... \\;\\\\\\; I'm bettin' that 90% + on this Forum say that's too long to run oil. \\;\\\\\\; Your call. \\;\\\\\\; CCRyder

bigskyhd if you read the post again the mechanic said up to 5K, NOT beyond which is exactly what the owners/service manual states. Others do it more often and that's OK but you do not have to especially if you are running synthetic.
