Ihave an '05 RK, first bike and I do not regret going with a "big" bike to start. Rides and handles great, two-up is comfy.

The jury is still out with me. Had an 02 Low Rider before getting the FLHRI a couple of weeks ago. Put 3k miles on it the first week and I understand why it's called a Road King. Having a hard time getting used to the heavy front end and am debating about selling or keeping it and making the necessary mods. Bought it from a guy who was about 5'6" and it has a Reach seat on it that I really don't like. Also hate looking through the windshield, so those may go now while I make a final decision.
The Low Rider was a very good bike for distance and I've done 1,200\\; 2,000\\; and 1,500 trips on it without pain.

Miss the nostalgic look for a few seconds once in a while, but the ride is cool.
I guess it is a matter of perspective. To me, the look of the (at least the pre-08) Road King Classic is much more nostalgic than that of a softail, in any guise I can remember seeing. Well, maybe excepting the new Crossbones (that has certain aspects of a nostalgic look, too).

I went from an Ultra to my RK, although I loved the Ultra for burnin down miles, I missed the wind in my face of my old FL. So I went to the RK and added the fairing and tourpack for long distance.................best of both worlds, get the King, its not called the king for nothing.

I don't think you would be sorry with a RK but after reading some of these posts (some put lowering shocks, some changed out the seat, etc), I would suggest that you go to where you can test ride one and then compare it to a StreetGlide.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; The SG already has been lowered, it has numerous gauges that monitor the engine, it comes pretty tricked out to begin with, it has a radio and it rides like a cadillac.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Once you have test ridden both (and maybe a few other baggers), then make the decision.&nbsp\\; I had a 99 RK that I just traded in on an 08 SG and I am amazed at the difference.&nbsp\\; I would never go back to a King after riding the SG.&nbsp\\; Just a good bang for the buck.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; Just something to mull over.

I had my heart set on&nbsp\\;a Fatboy as my first Harley.&nbsp\\; After talking and listening to other riders here on the forum I finally&nbsp\\;bought a Road King Classic. Every now and then&nbsp\\;I've sat on various Softails...and conclude that I made the right choice.&nbsp\\; Those guys who convinced me to buy the Road King are now some of my best friends. They knew what they were talking about.
&nbsp\\;
A word for the wise:&nbsp\\; A lot of new Road King owners complain about how uncomfortable the stock handlebars and seat are...and they're right.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;If you're considering financing the bike you might want to consider building enough cash to get this mod done before you leave the showroom.&nbsp\\; Anyone disagree or have different feelings about this?
&nbsp\\;
Good luck and ride safe.
