almost finished with handlebar swap
Hey yall, I've been piddling around this weekend changing out my hd reach bars for chubby wild one's 508's. this is the handlebar I've been wanting all along. I've got it on and adjusted, just have one more wire harness to insert to the connector and I'll be putting the nacelle back together. I've had fun doing it so far. my biggest challenge has been removing the wiring from the connectors. as stupid as that sounds, it took me almost 2 hours to get the first 2 wires removed. after i finally jerryrigged a smashed paperclip to be the tiniest screwdriver I have, things got easier.
the only bad thing is, when I changed from the stock bars to the reach bar, I was charged by my dealer for wiring extensions. I'll be doggoned if I saw them on the wiring. maybe harley just puts a whole new harness on and reconnects at the hand grips, I don't know, but I've been feeling dealer abuse since not being able to see this work I paid for once before. kinda ticks me off, and I'm ready to tell them about it too.
for anyone thinking about doing this change, I say go for it. its not that hard overall. if you have any soldering skills its even easier. theres a good tech tip in the controls forum, but I would change the soldering method to something easier. If you want to know what I did I'll be happy to add a pic or two when I post pics of the bike. I added 6 inches in extension wiring to both my harnesses, and I probably would have been happier adding 8. I'm kind of funny about having a little extra room with my clumsy fingers.
anyway i should finish up tomorrow afternoon. and I'll post some pics when I get it back together. some might be asking why so long wifey has had other family plans for me to attend all weekend too so an hour here and 2 there has just been slow going.
