Default Clutch Question....

Ok..I have been fighting with my clutch adjustment for weeks now..I can almost take the derby cover off and adjust it with my eyes closed I have done it so many times...and have adjusted the cable back and forth till I am blue in the face...My Question is...Does anybody elses clutch lever go from being ok...to being really tight and then back again??..Seems to do this when it gets warmed up a bit..but loosens up later..&nbsp\\; sometimes like within a cpl of minutes..I mean...is it normal for it to get tighter?? do I have the cable adjustment just a wee bit off?? Seems to work ok when the outside temp is cooler as well....

Hi Kyote,
&nbsp\\;
Sorry for asking, but did you do the adjusting on a COLD engine ? (very important)
&nbsp\\;
Adjusting the clutch shouldn't be that much of a problem [&:]
&nbsp\\;
You've probably seen these video's, but they say it all.
&nbsp\\;

&nbsp\\;

&nbsp\\;
To answer your question: Yes, it's normal the clutch gets tighter
when it gets warmed up.
Make sure you give the cable a large amount of free play BEFORE you
adjust the adjuster screw in the primary.
Also make sure that the ferrule at the handlebar
has a 1/16 - 1/8 inch gap between ferrule and bracket.
Pull clutch cable ferrule away from clutch lever bracket
to check free play.
&nbsp\\;
This is all the help I can give you
&nbsp\\;
Peter

I recall you posting something about this before, but I just can't find your original post.&nbsp\\; Did you replace the clutch recently or do some kind of work on it?

Kyote,
&nbsp\\;
I talked to my indy this morning about your clutch problem.
He said when adjusting doesn't work, you have to take it apart
and replace the bearing, pushrod and adjuster screw.
When the adjuster screw has been too tight in the past
it will be worn down beyond the point of re-adjusting.
&nbsp\\;
It sounds to me you're in for a busy weekend in the garage [&:]
&nbsp\\;
Good luck,
Peter
