RE: Rider backrest
I've had the same problem, and yes I have the adjustable one. As it is now I have to remove the backrest when I throw my son on the back, He carries a few extra pounds around the waiste, my wife of barely a 100lbs can sit back there but has very little to know room availiable. So by bending back the plates or adding washers, be prepaired to sacrifice the already lack of space in the Passenger area on the FLHTC models. Might be a different story without the travel-pak. Yes, It's in the rear postion. So I've thought about removing some of the pad, it's way to thick and I believe I can shave some off. I may take it to a shop to be done. Many choices, glad I'm not alone in this!

Got the rider backrest installed on stock 08 Road King, but it is pushing me too far forward. I have it adjusted as far back as it will go. Any suggestions on how to make it a little better?
