Has anyone put them in a lathe and took some emory cloth to remove the anodized finish? I was thinking of doing it and wondering if it would be worth my time.
I am tired of the purple look on a black bike. Anything should be an improvement.
You may already know this but contact Rinehart on there website they will replace those end caps for free because it was a manufacturers defect. They just replaced mine a couple of weeks ago. Great customer service.
Thanks for the tip FLHT. I went with slash cut instead. Kinda glad to get rid of the Rinehart logo anyway.
Tinker and Glyde I was told that if they were over a year old then they wouldnt replace them. Mine are over a year.
The black is hard black anodize. The hard coat is internal as well as external. You can sand it and true the black will come off ... But ... Once you do that they will oxidize and go grey on you. You can have the end caps black powder coated like I did. Once you do that it is easy to clean out the logo. I took the back end of a drill that matched the cutter radius in the logo. I just ran it back and forth (drill is held almost flat to tip surface) and the powder coat came out and I had the logo back. I have to admit they have stayed cleaner and the heat hasn't been an issue. They look terrific. I wonder why Reinhart never did this?????? Eastern performance has a couple of tips for Reinhart in chrome and black powder coat. If your after the Reinhart Logo then you need to do what I did. You can have Reinhart replace your tips but in time they will purple out on you again. I have a pair of slash cut tips in chrome from eastern if your interested. You can pm me if so.
I'm on my 3rd set of black end caps from rinehart and after a few thousand miles they turn purple every time. This time I went with the chrome end caps and although they cost 90.00 each at least I'm done with it.
