Default Streamliner shift pad

Hello-
Sometimes what should take 5 minutes takes an hour. I got a Streamliner shift pad for my from shifter. I thought it would just screw out.I cut the rubber off the end to see if there was a hex end or something, but no. Finally with locking pliers it moved slightly. I even tried cutting a slot with the Dremel tool to try and get some leverage. No go. Back to locking pliers and after much sweating it loosened up. It was red Lock-tited in. Directions in the new one said apply heat but I didn't want to torch near the chrome primary. Almost an hour later, it's on and looks great, but I'm not sure I want to go through all of this to do the back shifter!
Cheers!
By the way, only one space after a sentence and no return between paragraphs will keep out the /////////////'s!

I use locking pliars, like you did. Torque them waaay down, as much as you can and still get them to clamp on the peg. Then just start twisting. The rubber will distort a lot, but eventually the peg&nbsp\\;will break loose.
