Ontario Harley Insurance Ripoff
I am definitely envious of you US Harley owners and the great insurance rates that you pay.
I live in Ontario and have a 2005 Ultra Classic currently insured with Kingsway Insurance for $1200. Cdn / yr (US$1044.) with a $3250. Cdn (US$2826.) collision deductible and a $1000. Cdn (US$870.) comprehensive deductible - AND I'm only riding 5-6 months of the year because of the darn cold up here. Also have NO accidents or tickets and licensed for 35 years. The premuim is really high compared to you US folks, and very few insurance companies will insure Harleys because of their high value and those that do want 10% of the bike's value as a deductible - outrageous. Our market definitely needs some competition up here.
I don't suppose that some Ontario members have any good insurance contacts or ideas here?
Thanks,
Rick

Dalton Timmis is what Bountyhunter quoted. I have a 2006 ULTRA and wife has a Suzuki 650 (she is a NEW RIDER) and her first M/C insurance. BOTH are $1800 ($1000 for HD and $800 for her). FULL coverage etc. etc. Used to be with Primmum a couple of years back until I heard about Dan Timmis. Makes adifference if you have Home / Auto with them as well.......also CHEAPER than everyone else in Ontario.

As Canadians we get used to getting ripped off. Don't like it but what can you do? BUT how many of you US brothers and sisters have liability coverage for a million $, even two million. I told a US insurance agent that, and she laughed right out loud. Said if anyone knew you had that much, they would be slamming on the brakes right in front of you to collect.

Probably another way to RIP US OFF, but it is very common to have here. My cars and bike all have $1 mil, insurance guy recommends $2. The legal system is slightly different , I guess. If someone sued you for $750,000 after an accident where would you get the money?

1 or 2 million seems rather extreme now days. I know all of our insurance policies are at least 1 million. This is due to the risks of people suing for damages and personal injuries. Now days, at least since they introduced NO FAULT insurance here, you can't sue for large amounts anymore. But, now that I think of it, they haven't reduced the liablility amount. Go figure!
Another ripoff, when it comes to insurance, considering the value of any vehicle usually depreciates, right? Well, then why does your insurance rate increase every year? I know, I have read on our insurance policies exclusion statements. They limit the amount of insurance paid out....Which means, they will only pay out the value (THEY establish) on the vehicle at the time of the accident in the case of a total right off...Even if your premium is calculated on the value of a NEW vehicle. Explain this one to me!
