Default RE: Dealers trying to VOID warranties

my dealer put on o ring in the shifter rod and my warranty was all but voided. they sent in a picture of my trailer hitch, which had never had a trailer attached to it in. that voided engine, transmission and emmisions. service manager seemed to find humor in that, he did not know the GM was trying to sell me an 08 Ultra SE edition. ?They both lost a customer and I gave up my position in the local HOG. Have not been in stealership since, hope they are very happy

&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\;When I bought my last bike salesman took me in tow to "visit" all the different departments, service guy, (young kid) asks if I bought the extended warranty, "no", well did you buy the service plan? "No, why would I, it's 1700.00 and I do all my own maintenance." He gets this disgruntled look and tells me I'll be voiding my warranty if I do my own maintenance on a new bike, I just looked at him and laughed. Don't they realize they are alienating people when they pull this ****, but they do it because service department is a cash cow, and they try and scare people into bringing&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;their bikes in for routine maintenance or any add-ons by telling them they will be voiding their warranties if they do it themselves, bullshit!. On a lark I called the service dept. and asked them how much to install a few things I had already done, I was blown away by how much they wanted . At least the girls in motor clothes were nice, lol.
Why would I pay $1700 to extend my warranty when I will void it anyway by adding something myself??

I do not know one person that owns a new Hd that has had a warranty problem.
the dealer is tell you what the warranty say.
dealers do not make a dime by screwing you out of a warranty I do not know were this stuff comes from.
Dealer do get paid to do warranty work hmmmmmmm so why would they not do it.
I have owned a few new Hd over the years. I have two now and never had one problem with Hd.

It's my understanding that the dealership gets paid a much lower labor rate on warranty work. There is a financial incentive to void your warranty since the dealer&nbsp\\;will then get a higher labor rate per hour from the owner.

even when u pin them down with the magneson moss act suddenly they cant confirm the problem? took it to another dealer fixed no problem now they get my bussness.

It amazes me how many people never heard of/or don't understand the Magneson Moss act!! Basically it say's the dealer MUST proove ANY mods. you made to the bike caused the part failure/break down.&nbsp\\; My dealer is awsome they'll install most after market cams-pipes etc. cause they know most after market equip. is superior.. But I work on my own bike, so I don't need no stinkin' warrenty.

Andy... the dealer does get a slightly lower rate for warranty work... and they make nothing on parts.... but they make 100% more than if you take the bike to a good indy. If you don't have a warranty... there is no reason to use the dealer.
&nbsp\\;
My dealer sings a completely different tune. I had MY INDY put on V&amp\\;H slipons, SE A/C, PCIII, changed the air temp to oil temp and added cruise. I asked my dealer about the warranty... he said... "Technically it is voided, but for normal upgrades (like mentioned) we usually look the other way.... unless you totally screwed your bike with the&nbsp\\;fuel management settings." My HD shop sends their difficult diagnostics over to my indy... so they know the quality of service he provides.

Isn't it MOCO that ultimatly decides on if the warranty has been voided?&nbsp\\; They have a representative decide, not always the dealer.

You know eventually, they probably would honor the warranty, but it's all the BS and hassle you have to go through to convince them to allow it under warranty.&nbsp\\; Meanwhile your bike is sitting in their shop for weeks in the middle of the summer getting nothing done to it until it's been resolved.

Maybe some dealers have plenty of&nbsp\\; simple work changing oil and bolting on acc's. Find a dealer that wants your business so they do a good job.
