SE 80491-07 muffler question

RE: SE 80491-07 muffler question
The Harley muffler clamps actually bend when tightend. \\; They take a set and do not return to the original shape when loosened.
 \\;
Some people change them every time. \\; Others say they can be reused only once and other just keep using them over and over again.
 \\;
I know that mine were reused \\;two times befroe I installed the SE slip-ons. \\; For \\;about $20 for two clamps, I decided to buy new ones when installing the SE slip-ons.
 \\;
I have seen numerous posts with people complaining about their slip-ons coming loose. \\; The reply has always been - buy new HD clamps to solve your problem.
 \\;
When installing slip-ons, you must make sure that the mufflers are pushed on far enough so that the slits in the pipe on the front of the slip-ons fully engage the exhaust pipe. \\; There should be no openings visible when you install the clamps. \\; Even the slightest opening will create an exhaust leak which will cause popping on deceleration. \\; That is another reason for using new clamps.
 \\;
Some people recommend using a muffler sealer or high temperature RTV (silicone) when installing new mufflers. \\; I have not done that, but many have.
