Need some advice on retorquing compensator
I have an 07 ultra
I was thinking of pulling my primary cover on sunday to check two things.
First the auto chain tensioner to see if it is working properly and second the nut on the compensator sprocket.
I'm experiencing what feels like my primary chain taking up the slack and loosening as I quickly go on and off the throttle. I'm thinking my auto chain tensioner is not taking up the slack in the chain.
Is any one else experiencing this on their bike?
Also would anyone here have a link or a copy of the service bulletin the harley dealers have with the new torque values for the compensator nut and the installation of the spacer washer under the nut and the other option of machining some off the nut.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

07 is a bolt, not a nut and can't be bottomed out. Bulletin don't appy to these. Use red loctite, and torque to spec, which I believe is 160 ft lbs. \\;The auto tensioner by design has a spring pack that will add slack on decel, which is what you are feeling. On accel it's normal adjustment

I hope your right......I'm taking the cover off anyway just to satisfy my curiosity.
I've never felt this slack before... I've heard the cam chain tightners have a ratchet mechanism on it that locks it into the next position and it can't come loose. The spring only pushes on the shoe to move it to the next position.
Whats the matter people.....no one else on here have any opinions on the subject?

The chain tensioner is on a ratchet system. The spring or shoe lock have to be broken for it to back off. Check the bolts holding the tensioner on. A friend had a strange noise when one of the spring plates broke in the compensator?

On my 07 the compensator bolt was loose, no torque. I removed the bolt, cleaned thread on bolt and inside crank with wire brush and chemtool, then retorqued to 160 \\;with red loctite. Alls well since, about 10k miles. You will need to make a tool to keep sprockets from turning, very simple to make with plate steel if you have that capability. Specs can be found by searching this site.
