Default GAS CAP SHORTAGE....Be Preparred

Well I just returned from an 8 day trip and as usually, I'm the one I have to watch. I stopped at a gas station only to realize I left my gas cap some 180 miles back the other way. Well, I figured I'd find a Harley dealer down the road and get a new one. I entered a Harley shop only to find out they had sold the 4 new gas caps that week alone and they are on order. I was lucky the guy that handles the rentals said he had a new wrecked rental and I got the cap from it.

They stated that during the riding months, gas caps go quite quickly. So, my next visit to my local shop, I'll be purchasing an extra one for the bag to carry.

I sure am glad I can laugh at myself or I would have been in trouble a long time ago.

PS. A potato doesn't work and look cool on a Harley as a gas cap.

Cheers,
Mack

Losing it is one thing, realizing it 180 miles away is another!

I mean really, after filling up your crouch and legs would be wet and smelling of gas. The fuel would be all over the place.

I guess you ride in a straight&nbsp\\; line.... because if it was me I'd loose 1/2 the tank on my 2nd turn.&nbsp\\; But I never lost a cap on a bike .......

On an FL model the gas cap is under the key-operated door.&nbsp\\; Its really easy to miss when you are done fueling you just close the door and go.&nbsp\\; And it does not make a splashy mess, but you can smell gas fumes.

According to my Harley shop that is one of the biggest sale items they have. Lots of people end up leaving the gas cap on the pump. I started putting it on my seat when I fuel so I won't forget it.&nbsp\\;
