According to my Harley shop that is one of the biggest sale items they have. Lots of people end up leaving the gas cap on the pump. I started putting it on my seat when I fuel so I won't forget it.
+1

I've only lost one cap, about 2 or 3 weeks after I bought the bike. Never again though. Lesson learned.

The morning I did it was a pretty chilly ride. Sinuses clogged up, couldn't smell anything. Warmed up by the afternoon ride home, which is when I noticed the smell. No splashes, just the gas smell. Pulled over, popped the compartment, no cap. Made a b-line straight to the dealer and bought a new one. First &amp\\; last time that's happened.

Mine rolled off my seat and a cager ran over it in BFE Cal.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; The station attendant had a drawer full of orphaned caps and the first one I tried fit, must be a common&nbsp\\; size...price was right too...FREE!!!!

I put the cap inside the lid to one side so the lid will not close , so this way I can not loose a cap.
thats how i do it too.

Nope, didn't smell a thing and the door kept gas in. We were on the interstate so we were riding about 75 mph. If I would have smelt the gas, I would have turned around and retrieved it.

Hopefully, as someone else said one here, did it once, lesson learned. Well I did it once. Now I'm putting the cap on the seat.

&nbsp\\;Get a gas cap hanger. Thin wire hanger that goes inside the cap so you can hang it on a throttle cable. Works great. 5 bucks.

Ok so we all are human.&nbsp\\; I was used to my road king and seeing the gas cap all the time.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; It was Holiday weekend and I closed my door and left my gas cap.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; One more thing to get used to on an ULtra Classic.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; I have only lost one so far.

I was filling&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;up my truck at a gas station and a guy on a standard started driving off - Pipes loud as all get out.
I looked over and saw a gas cap, so I started yelling and running toward him as he's driving off.
He didnt hear me.
Thats when I said to myseld "loud pipes lose gas caps"
