Default HD Ultra...Kickstand

Just recently picked up first Harley...The only thing that has me befuddled is the fricking kickstand, it always has me holding my breath, I understand how it&nbsp\\;works, but scares the crap out of me, always think it's gonna give away.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; Anybody else ever experience this, once down and locks in it always moves some(01 Ultra)

same here.&nbsp\\; turn your forks to the left when dismounting, it locks it in.&nbsp\\; it will move just a little, but if you look closely at the mechanism and the way it functions you will realize there is nothing to worry about.&nbsp\\; I typically rock it back a notch prior to jumping off.

+1 It bothered me too. The kickstand only comes out to the 9:00 position, then it rocks forward a little to boot. Finally I just tried pushing forward as hard as I could and naturally it was fine. Now Im over it.

Search for the post from the guy that modified his stand's weld tab by 15 degrees.

I did the same first day of&nbsp\\;looking at&nbsp\\;mine. Asked the salesman if it was broke. He shoved it forward about 2 feet on the kick stand. It just slid on the floor. Never fell. Good enough for me.

From what I've seen, Harleys have done that since day one (pretty much).&nbsp\\; I've had 5 starting in '80, and they all did it.&nbsp\\; None ever fell over.&nbsp\\; They have a locking tab that actually works as designed.&nbsp\\; When the bike's upright the tab disengages and the stand will flip back if you take off &amp\\; forget to retract it (usually).
&nbsp\\;
Ride safe,

I always look down and make sure the tab is engaged properly prior to standing up...No problems yet, knock on wood!

Stand had me and non Harley friends jumping for the bike thinking it was gonna roll off amd go over. I'm starting to get used to it, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking about the time I ignore the slight roll, it will be the one time it didn't catch the tab&nbsp\\;Long time HD owners tell me I will eventually loose that thought as well, I hope
