What mileage to switch to synthetics?

What mileage to switch to synthetics?
I talked to an indy today and we got on the subject of synthetic oils. He says to wait until the 5K service...dealer says 1K. What difference would it make?

My Indy said synthetic in the tranny after 2000\\; fossil everywhere else until about 5000. \\; If you change the oil every 3000 he thinks it is probably not worth it.

Just saying what the manual said on my 05 Fat Boy. My 08 UC came all syn. I agree with anytime but that isn't what HD recommends.

I changed mine over to Synthetic at 1000 miles.
