bike just started to backfire and loose power, would not stay running ,had to be towed into dealer,&nbsp\\;dealer called me later in the day and said it was a problem with the fuel pump.&nbsp\\;2008 FLTR 800 miles, waiting on part

 

Everyone that has had this issue what are all of you mfg date on your bike so we can figure if there is some sort of trend with this problem.

 

Mine was manufactured in Aug 2007. I will be picking the bike up tomorrow, all fixed. My dealer had no problem getting the part. I will post the new part # tomorrow. I guess a new vendor is making the part.

 

My 2008 Street Glide with 5700 miles on it just quit running. The dealer showed me the problem. The plastic latches that attach a white plastic bowl to the fuel pump broke causing an extreme loss in fuel pressure. The dealer said they have had to change out a lot of these parts and that Harley has had this part on back order for some time now. This Tuesday-June 17, this part is supposed to come off of back order. The dealer said Harley will on occasion redesign parts like this one when a problem like this becomes apparent, but we will have to compare the new part to the old one to find this out.

If I had been going up one of the many bridges in my area when the engine quit I might not be here to write this thread. Has anyone else had this problem?

The above is my thread I started without realixing this is an epidemic. Gee Whiz! I had my bike 6 weeks when this happened. My wife also has a 2008 Street Glide. I am still waiting on this part. If HD sends the same crap out after the backorder then my lawyer friends and I will sue. This is absolutely bull that it has taken this long for them to do something about this potentially fatal issue.

As I Stated above the bike will stop running immediately when this part breaks, tell me that this isn't a recipe for disaster. They need to start a recall before somone is killed going up a bridge.
