Got to Sturgis while it was 100 degrees last year. I was sucking back liquids at every gas stop and often made a stop about 80 miles into a tank just to get a drink. Of course, one cannot have enough water or sport type drink while riding in the heat. Even with drinking fluids at every opportunity, at the end of a couple of long riding days, it seemed that I was still down about a quart.

I'm wondering about the idea of a hydration pack like this. Different sizes hold 2-4 liters of water. Wear it like a backpack. Nozzle clips onto shirt or collar. Bite down on valve to sip on the water. http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_d...45524442617927

Cons - Nozzle may flap around in wind. May be difficult to work at cruising speed. May look a little geeky.

Pros - Maintain good hydration in extreme heat.

Anyone ever try one of these setups while touring? Thoughts?

 

try a Kruiser Kaddy.....they work awsome.....you can find them at the dealerships or online at liek eastern performance

 

I've worn them for years...but not on a bike. If you decide to go with one...don't go cheap, stick with Camelback products. Many of the new hoses come with alligator clips near the end, so you can clip to your collar and avoid the thing from taking your eye out at 80mph! I've worn them in an open bed of a 5-ton whipping along the highway...worked perfect.

 

Go to walmart, get a hydration pack from the sporting goods sections for less $

 

I wear a CamelBak all the time for long trips. Works like a champ. Fill it with ice and water and you are good to go! Over the Memorial Day weekend, I rode 620mi at one shot in 90 deg weather. I drank every drop in my 70oz pack which kept me well hydrated. I don't have any problems with the drinking straw flying around at speed. Just clip the mouth piece to the strap and you have no worries.

Don't cheap on the CamelBak. Like many things in life, you get what you pay for.

I got one, the Kruser Kaddy sat too low and hit my tank (once!).
I wear my Camelbak under my vest and haven't had any problems.
Worth every cent on a recent ride through the Anza Borrega dessert.

 

Use it all the time under my Tac Gear. Go with either of the big boys. The tube system and quality is worth the difference in price, also, if anything happens to any part you can buy a replacement piece instead of a new unit.

Camel backs are issued and mandatory for wear over here in Iraq. They are awesome. I would wear one on my bike in a heart beat, and will as soon as i get home. Don't cheap out on the wal mart ones. Get yourself a Camelback.

Also, don't put anything but water in it. I have seen people put gatorade in it one to many times, and it just ends up getting all moldy and smelling awful because you can never get it clean again.

 

I've got a few of the Blackhawk Hydrastorm packs and they work great.

 

just remember what you carry on your back will eventually come out the other end. plan accordingly.
