Default 08' Auto acceleration problem confirmed

Took my 08' Road Glide in today for some service. Asked the SM if they would do all the computer upgrades while it was in there. During the conversation I asked him about the auto acceleration problems on the 08's. He confirmed that it is a problem and that HD is working on the fix. He agreed that because this is a safety issue that this would probably warrant a recall. I would say that if you have an 08' that going through the emergency shut down drill in your mind from time to time would be a good idea. T.

I had that problem. But it was because I was wearing cold weather gloves, had a throttle boss and it was socold I couldnt feel my hands.
When I realized what my hands were doing leaning on the throttle boss I made an adjustment.
But in the mean time the bike was reving up while I was driving in traffic - In Gear.
Did I freak out?
Thats what a clutch is for!
Maybe common sense isnt so common, I dont know...[]

I just don't remember anyone on here saying that it's happen to them. A lot of hear say [including you] but no one saying "I'm riding along and it takes off on it's own" Wouldn't you agree?

I didn't say that anyone had been saying that on here however there has been some speculation. In conversation with the service rep when I asked him he said there was a problem and that HD was working on the fix. This is not to be confused with the throttle staying on high rpm due to people shutting them down when the throttle was not back to zero. This is an actual increase in RPM's while riding. This was not hear say from some guy that said he heard this. It came straight from the HD service reps lips. Believe it or not. T.

I understand what you were saying. My meaning was if there was a problem with "auto acceleration" surely someone on here would have experenced it. But there has not been anyone that says "yes that happened to me" just someone who knows someone. As far as the Service rep goes there was a thread on here yesterday where the rep told someone "go ahead and buy the bike without ABS we can add it on later" which we know they can't do. I'm not giving you a hard time. I just have heard so many times on here of the problems you discribed but no one who has actually had it. Again not trying to start anything with you.

If your cruise is on while this "auto acceleration" is happening it could be your cruise control causing it. I just had this problem this past weekend only to find out the cause was a pinched wire. I powdercoated my handlebars and while reassembling it, I pinched the wires where they go under the brake lever mount where the bar is dimpled. I seperated the pinched wire from the rest and wrapped it so it will not ground out on the handlebar again.

So far, so good.

My brother-in-law borrowed my 08 RG this weekend. He got back late Monday night. I spoke with him today and he informed me that my bike idled sparaticly when hot and at one time hung at 3000 rpm. He is an experienced rider and kept it under controle. I will be looking into it further.

Again are we talking about high idle or a motorcycle that accelerates on it's own. Some have had high idle when they restart the bike. Completely different than the rumored runaway bike that none on here has experienced on there own. Not hear say!

My 08 RKC has not had a problem with high idle during the first 950 miles but last week the throttle did get stuck open in second gear as I was accelerating up a hill. Plus, it would not shift up to third. I had to stop by pulling in the clutch. I used the kill switch, turned off ignition, and then restarted everything and all was normal. Dealer is checking it out now during 1000 mile service. This may not fit in either category of idling high at stop or sudden acceleration, but it certainly wasn't good.
