Default Oil Temp Dipstick w/LCD Readout...Q

Had my new LCD oil dipstick for about 220 miles now...that's right 220 miles and the gauge no longer works or lights up.

Is there a quick fix to this $99.95 part? A battery or something that gets replaced or have I been ripped off by a subpart piece of crap?

Ad says a long lasting replaceable battery...hmmm 2 months have gone by... since new purchase, is that considered long lasting?

Any one know what type of battery it may take? I hope its not a required HD $$$ battery, is it?

Thanks.

Do I need to carry spare batteries on every ride now just in case?

Those things, IMHO, are pieces of doo-doo. I had one and it lasted about 3 months then died!!!

You can get that battery at your local Wal-Mart.

I think there is a wire or two that can break off its solder connection in the head end.

I got one for christmas in 2002. When I traded bikes I kept the dipstick, it still works great and it's still got the original battery.
