There is no advantage!!
Before HD Classic Chrome floating rotors, my 1-piece rotors wore more on the inside of the rotor than the outside surface. You could feel the difference with your fingers. With floating rotors, the wear is even.

Will they help with "brake squeek"?
That is what I'm hoping for. I just installed HD floaters up front along with LRB pads, Just waitin on new lower brake line (sometime today). I just can't stand the brake squel on a bike this nice (and this expensive).

It is my understanding the the floating rotors dissipate heat better also.

OK I'll try....
Floating rotors will move a little allowing the caliper and pads to align square to the rotor increasing braking efficiency. Less noise too.
Also, since there is some isolation between sections (inner and outer), they reduce the heat that makes its way to the bearings. I always use floaters for the front, but don't bother for the rear even though it would probably be best to use them all-around. I rarely use the rear brakes anyway to take some of the load away from the rear tire, which wears out much quicker than the front.

just be aware that HD floating rotors are not true floaters. they are 2 piece rotors that are hard rivited together. i have some because my stock rotors were toast but i got the HD floaters cause i liked the look. the lyndall pads are what make the braking better.

Got the polished stainless floaters and organic pad fr KC International at a great price and love them. They do stop better since you are getting pressure on both pads.

HD should mount floating rotors on all bikes.

I don't understand. How are HD floaters different than true floating rotors.

true floating rotors have springs and washers seperating the 2 peices. you can grab the disk and move it with your hands (very little). the HD "floaters" are 2 peice but they are solidly connected so there is no movement. check the price for HD "floaters" vs a floater from lyndall or performance machine, there is a reason the HD's are so cheap.....
