This is the cruise control cable lash initialization procedure that should have been done when the dealer installed the cruise, if you have a pre-08 bike:

If it wasn't done or done properly, it might account for what you are experiencing. I hold the throttle steady and use my left hand to set the cruise, and experience no change in speed doing so.

I used cruise a lot over the last four days between Washington and California, and it worked perfectly. Stays dead-on when I set it, and holds the speed no matter the incline. 08 Ultra

I have the same problem on my '06 dealer installed cc. Drops a couple mph. I will try the lash adjustment and see if it corrects the problem.

My 04 Ultra had the worst cruise. Set it and it would drop off 3-4 MPH. Sometimes it would just take off and I would have to kick it off. Other times it would not engage. It was bad! Dealer never did get it right.
My 06 Ultra is the exact opposite. It is dead on with no drop off.

Hard to believe an authorised HD stealer wouldn't do the job properly

I'll try the cable init procedure.. Hopefully that takes care of it.

Thanks!

Bingo!!! Thanks for the initialization/lash adjustment procedure...

I did that this weekend, now its spot on! I am a little perturbed that the dealer either did not do it, or did not do it right...

Glad it worked for you.&nbsp\\; Let the Service Manager know his tech messed up.&nbsp\\; The cable lash initialization procedure is called for in the installation instructions for the cruise control kit, so the tech clearly omitted this step in the installation.&nbsp\\; In fact, you probably paid for the tech's time to do it.[:@]

Now go back and show your dealer how to do it.
