You can get a K&N filter charger kit at Autozone or similar for 12 bucks or so. It comes with a cleaner and oil. I usually just clean mine at night and lay it in front of the refridgerator or dehumidifier overnight. It will be dry in the morning. Then, just re-oil and put it back on.

NEVER blow it out. Use the K&N cleaning kit and spray they front. Let the cleaner soak in. Run water through the back side using a garden hoses or open faucet so that you can have a slow flow of water. Let it dry over night. Then lightly oil it using the K&N oil.

It can get quite dirty before it has to be cleaned, check it by holding it up to a light.

Word of advice, do not over oil the filter after cleaning.
Just enough to make full coverage.

It will blow the oil back to ya from the breather when
you ride and you'll have oil down the side of your bike.

Don't ask mehow I know.[:@]

One of the benefits of the K&N filter is it only requires cleaning every 50,000 miles, under normal operating conditions. Forget everything you know about old stylefilters. Cleaning a K&N filter every 5,000 miles is unnecessary.
