I have a 2005 Road King that has developed a ticking sound when the RPM's increase. I took it to the local Harley dealer who advises me there is nothing they can do with it and that some Harley's do this. I love the bike but it's driving me nuts ! I have heard that synthetic oil may help.....any ideas out there ?

RE: spring/valve ticking
I actually started really hearing th ticking when I took off the helmet (I guess another reason to wear it). I changed out my mufflers to slightly louder and with the ticking not being too loud (which I figure should be the right amount for the engine) I pretty much can't hear it now. We'll see how it goes.

RE: spring/valve ticking
Thank you all for your replies...the bike is entirely stock and the dealer has given the valves/springs/lifters the once over....I will try changing the oil to synthetic and an injector cleaner.....if this doesn't do it, either I live with it or move on to a different Harley......Thanks again....this forum is a great place to learn for us new Harley owners !

Look at your heatsheild and florboards.Had one come in the other day that was ticking.Sounded like it was coming apart at high rpm.Heatsheild was hitting.I took a screwdriver handle and started tapping stuff on the bike when it was off.Thats how I found it.It rattled to beat all heck
