My Backs Killing Me

RE: My Backs Killing Me
it's likely a combination of all the factors you pointed out. Do you have a photo of yourself on the fatboy? take one on the SG... note the differences. My guess is it's the handlebar placement.... roll the SG bars forward or backward to match the FB's, then try it. A Softtail's seat will put you lower and rearward from a Touring seat... just the way the frames are, but you should be able set the SG up similar to the FB...

RE: My Backs Killing Me
i rode a couple of hundred miles in the rain yesterday in i noticed i do slouch. when i conciously kept my back straight and scooted foward in the seat an inch or twono back pain. im 5'8" and i just flat foot the bike at a stop also no back problems. i ordered the backrest first , after i try that ill try a seat, and last the bars. i'm pretty sure the backrest will do the trick it should keep me from slouching and will keep me from sliding all the way back in the seat like i used to do on my softail.
thanks for all the advice

backrest, and rotate the bars closer to you if you can

Get a higher set of bars with more pull back. The parts guy at the dealer has a chart what bars by what inches are what, and should be able to measure you on a bike for the bars that would be the most comfortable and have the best back strain releif postion.
Good luck with it.

Enough allready.......bars and seats.
HD desperately needs to have a Fitment Program before the bike even goes out the door.
Corporate should encourage dealers to fit the bike to the customer. With costsof $20,000+ for a touring bike, let Corporate eat the charges.

RE: My Backs Killing Me
The only way to figure it out and not waste your money is try some before you buy. I bought a HD adjustable backrest for my Street Glide and used it just a few times because it just didn't fit ME right. I've had back surgery too and I would just leave it home because it didn't help at all. I heard some guys bending the bar to get it right. So I sold it and bought a C&C with there backrest AHHHHHHH! No comparison. But it might not fell good to you at all.
