My Backs Killing Me

RE: My Backs Killing Me
When I test rode/rented a Street Glide, my back hurt before I gave the bike back.
So when I bought one (Street Glide)I put on the "HD adjustable backrest" before it left the shop and my back has never hurt since.
I have a bad back and I slouch if I don't have a backrest.
That kills me (the slouching).
I'm getting use to the handle bars, but I still want more pull back.

RE: My Backs Killing Me
You are a victim of the strange phenomena called; 'I look really cool with my butt nearly dragging the ground' that theMOCO has decided is what we all want. ;-) But seriously, the seat is too ow relative to the floor boards and bars. Italso angles back, creating the lower back strain you speak of. If you were to get a tall boy seat or something custom like it ( I got a great seat from Bill Mayer saddles that emulates a cop solo saddle) you will notice a huge improvement.
The rear shocks are also too low and have limited travel, so the ride is harsh, contributing tothe strain on the back.
I would use 13 or 13.5" shocks to give a more compliant ride.
Here are some shots of the Mayer saddle I had made to emulate a cop solo seat. They specify tall, wide, flat seats for control and comfort; those qualities are eons more important for me than looks.
Please, no comments about it being 'fugly'. This is a great saddle for me and I have no interest inlooking 'bad' or any of that crap. I just like to ride.

A lot of it depends on your height and reach. The more straight up your back is the better it will feel.

RE: My Backs Killing Me
Street Glide....was the MoCo's attempt to make a low slung custom type street bagger.....Dah, the name is Street Glide! If some have issues with it, You didn't do your homework well! Or you bought the wrong bike! Give me a break...I love mine, and I use the stock seat...and I ride more than most!
