I drain mine whilke the bike is on a craftsman jack. never had a problem, use an oblong plastic flower planter to catch the fluids (flowers removed!). It's definitely easier and you have more room than if it were on the jiffy stand. I do change the filter with the stand down so the oil drips run downhill on the plastic cookie sheet (no cookies) I use to keep it off the front of the engine.

and the cookies what are they on? i know probably the empty filter case

actually flowers are a weekly thing for my wife(if she's happy - I'm ecstatic!) first time I did that it took a few days to convince her I hadn't done anything wrong!
cookies are next to my coffee and don't last very long around me -

 

I use one of those plastic "For Sale" signs,it is flexable enough to flex around the filter and drains straight down to the drain pan. I then just wash it off and save it for next time. I pretty much found this out by accident, it was sitting under my work bench collecting dust and I was trying to find something to use and after trying it it worked great!!! No Mess.

Now it has it's own spot right next to the filter wrench in the tool box.
