RE: hey guys... good news and bad... :(
WOW first off I want to say that I am happy that you are ok. There could have been worse damage to yourself. The bike can be repaired. I recently totalled a SG at about 30 mph because of frame damage but I suffered a shattered leg. The leg and ankle are the worst place to break. You dont realize how much you depend. I am sure you will have a speedy recovery. They made me a bionic man with a bunch of metal. I hope you have a natural recovery. With the ribs dont over do it. They really will haunt you if you over do it. God bless and I am glad you are still with us.

That is my biggest fear. The wife I and communte from work at midnight in the sierras and we have seen many deer. The ones already standing on the road are no big deal. Its the ones you cant see that suddenly run out infront of you I fear. Its like playing russion roullette because you have no control over a deer that runs out infront of you at the last minute. I ride covering the front and back brake all the way home.

Glad to see the bike came out worse than you guys did, bike parts are easier to replace than body parts!
Did you at least get to cut out the backstraps?
Hit my deer in 2001 on the way to the Redwood Run at 5:00am. Luckily only knocked a passing lamp loose and didnt go down. DONT want to do that again.
Heres to a speedy recovery, get back on the horse ASAP!

OUCH!!!!!
I was in WISCONSIN on a trip few years back and was driving late at night and had one run into the side of my van.I was doing around 40...made one hell of a noise and when i got out of my truck to look at damage the deer was standing in the lane dazed and after a few minuites it and its buddy went on there way like nothing happened...Friggin tough creatures!!! my truck was old so no big deal and it was drivable...Glad you and the misses are OK... One more note...An editor for safety in cycle world or rider mag was taken out a few years back..Full gear on..Just never know..One more thing we all need to think of!!!! God speed on recovery....R.W.

Been there, last fall and it was not fun.We were more fortunate.. It appears your deer was larger or hit more squarely.
My forks were not bent but nearly everything else was either bent or covered with s@^t.....
We didn't go down.
I am so glad you guys will be OK, the insurance battle isn't bad, at least it wasn't for me.One way to get closer to a total is make sure you don't settle for any repairs to the frame. I am certain the tab up under the neck that the crash bar is bolted to is bent or torn and the powdercoat is cracked, they cannot fix that as new and if you stick to your guns it will be a frame out repair. Check to see if your state is a diminished value state.(another good ins. argument)
I didn't make a total but your damage looks to be worse than mine.
Good luck and glad you are safe.

WOW!!!
Glad that is all that happened to you both. Did you go down did the deer hit your bodies to cause the damage. I don't ride in the eves just because of deer. Here in Nebraska they are everywhere. A fellow I knew who has been riding for over 30 years was just killed this spring by hitting a deer. Another friend hit a fawn cut the fawn in two, barely hurt his harley.
I wish quick recovery to you. Take care.
