Just had the same noise myself. Took it to the dealership to see what they said. As I pulled in the mechanic was standing outside andimmediately said " sounds like your compensating sprocket is about to come off" Babied it home and pulled the primary cover, sure enough, the compensating sprocket nut was 2 turns from falling off. It's an easy fix. 165 ft.lbs.and red locktite.Take care of it before it comes off and shears the splines on your crankshaft. That's a big fix.

RE: weird noise from the primary
actually there's a big nut that holds that piece on .. your in the right spot though. there is a special tool to keep everything from turning while you tighten the nut..Don't try and put it in gear to tighten it.. some use a soft piece of wood to jam the gears. clean everything really good., so the RED lock tight will hold..
good luck Steve
