Any opinions on using HD synthetic oil in all three holes on an 06 Road Glide?

Aww cmon, you're just beggin for a fight on here
There is a forum are on here for oil etc. Also may try using the search feature, lots of info on there. As for me, Mobil1 20/50 in the engine, Formula+ primary, and Mobil1 75/90 in the trans. Welcome to the board, and nice first post!

If were talking strictly opinion here. Mine is:

1. Why use a motor oil in a gear box? That's what gear lube is made for.

2. Why use a synthetic blend (HD Syn 3) rather than a true synthetic oil for the same $?

3. I still haven't made up my mind on the primary. Been using the HD formula + till then.

Over the last year there was a heavily debated thread dedicated to this subject. Alot of information posted by people much smarter than I'll ever be. Check it out.

In one of the BAGGER magazines...they just bought a RK and did this to it using AMSOIL 20W50...I raised my eyebrows momentarily....until I went to the Dealership. I Picked up a bottle of their 20W50 SE Synthetic oil. It says right on the bottle...may be used in Transmission, Engine and Primary. If HD does it...why shouldn't you? I even went to a small local shop and asked the guy about it....he had actually called AMSOIL to inquire about this. They told him they wouldn't even sell him straight Tranny fluid because they are now recommending that you use the 20W50 in all three holes. These folks make their living with oils. We have used AMSOIL in all our family and business vehicles for 20 years with NO PROBLEMS. In the next week....I'll be draining all my fluids and putting 20W50 in all 3 holes.Again....pick up a bottle of HD SE Synthetic and read it...the MOCO says it can be done....so GO FOR IT!!!

I switched to Red Line. For convienance I just buy the "Red Line Big Twin 20W60HD PowerPack ". It gives you everything needed without searching around the pages. Also get the HD Forums discount there. Here is a link to what I get. http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p...Oil_Powerpacks

Ride Safe,

I've been using cheap fossil engine oil in the primary for over 10 years. I'm now running Castrol GTX 20w50, which is about $2.50/qt. from Wal-Mart. There is no need for a high-tech oil in the primary any more than it is needed to lube the hinges on a $5000 door.
