Default Wrecked Bike/Need Ins. Advice

I I took a spill in the Ozarks and wrecked my 05 Eglide Classic. There's no frame damage and I rode it another 1400 miles afterwards. The insurance company wants to call it a total and give me $12K plus another $3K for accessories. This wouldn't be so bad except that I have a good bit of money in my 98" motor.

My other option is to take the $8K in repairs and buy it back for $7K in which case I'm guessing I end up with a salvage title. I haven't finished all the figuring but I'm sure I can fix it up for less than 4K and it would look good as new and I would be perfectly happy with it. Do I have any other options?

Thanks,
Rick

I would look to do a bit more negotiation with the ins co. Still keep the bike, but you must work out a better deal with the ins co. Just remember though......those **** heads do this sort of thing every day.....you not very often I hope.

Also it depends on your states rules. If you repair the bike to a said standard you may be able to pry a clean title out of them......but then if your not planning on selling what the heck. Another thing.....if its fixed correctly and all your riding buddies know its fixed correctly, chances are you could get one of those guys to buy it from you....???

Thar's also the chance that you kin negotiate w/the insurance company ta pay the claim and NOT total the bike....an' if ya have the insurance set up right, ya should be able ta weasle additional $$$ outta 'em fer the engine alone.

How about doing some wrenching and put the STOCK parts back in the motor? That is what they are paying for. Then buy yourself an 06 classic or Ultra and put the parts on it? Just an idea.

I would try offering them less for the bike. If they are willing to give you 15k for it then they think it will cost more than 15k to fix it. Try 3k to start and maybe they will counter to 5k.

definitely negotiate with the insurance company. whoever is handling your account is trying to limit the dollars paid by the insurance company, which is his/her job. keep negotiating and you will do better, and they definitely will lowball you coming out.

Tuesday I should have some final figures but at this point the adjuster is thinking it's going to be NADA ($12,300) plus the 3K accessories coverage. My argument is going to be NADA is average and with all I've done to this bike it's above average.

I've done so much else to this bike other than the motor I really hate to start over again. I just got it the way I wanted it and now this happened.

That's fine - tell the adjuster to find you a bike in YOUR MARKET available in the same condition for that price. They tried that w/my son, he got their offer up 30%!!

Check Kelly Blue Books, www.kbb.com , for values as well. Sometimes their retail values are somewhat higher than NADA. Good luck!
