2 shots at how these connectors "actuate"

1. The little "gate" on the back of them pops open:

2. I'm hoping you can see the little "ramps" inside the connectors and how they function:

Hope this helps.

If you have the HD Service Manual, go to the Appendix and it will explain (with pictures) how to remove pins (male wire terminals) and sockets (female wire terminals) from the various connectors. IIRC, the connectors in Darren's pics are "Amp Mulitlock Electrical Connectors" and are covered in Appendix B.2 (at least that's where it's covered in my '04 SM).

I found using a simple pick tool works well to release pins and sockets with the pick tool inserted, as shown in the App. pics, from the connection side, not the wire insertion side, of the of the connector housing. Did this today removing pins from the fairing cap switch connector harness inside the fairing--although it's a 12 place connector, the removal/insertion process is the same.

NCCopBikeRider: I installed the Motolights today and will start a thread later on the project. I purchased the basic brushed aluminum version, 50 watt bulbs, and mounted themon the calipers. Haven't ridden at night yet, but agree the "triangle" of light will be noticeable to cagers day and night. I had been running HD fog lamps primarily for this same reason, but plan to remove them to install fairing lowers--it never ends, does it????

Thanks Darren for the awesome pictures. They are a huge help when it comes to getting it done. I will attempt. I guess I get to go make a socket. Would one of those pass through sockets work. I have them that the wire could just slip right through. We will have to see but its been a big help. I get to go have fun now taking everything apart again
