Shorty Antennae for Ultra Classic

RE: Shorty Antennae for Ultra Classic
Took my whip antenna, removed the antenna mast from the base (there is a set screw that holds in place), cut the antenna mast about a yard from the bottom, installed Kuryakyn's antenna flag holder into the remaining part of the mast (aprox 10 inches), inserted the mast to the base, placed the shorty antenna with the flag on my King TP.
Here's the result I got. Unforunately, I lost a lot of reception, I was going to install a hidden antenna anyway.

RE: Shorty Antennae for Ultra Classic
The problem with going with the cheapo rubber antennas as a CB is that your SWR will not be at the same level that the stock antenna is at. The rubber mount antennas are designed specifically for AM/FM purposes. If you are planning on operating CB then I would recommend looking at the J&M shorty's as they are tuned specifically for this application. High SWRmeans that eventually the transmitter finals will burn out. One thing though about any shorter antenna, it will reduce the distance that you can talk and hear. Even the stock CB antenna is pre-loaded which means that you will have some antenna loss. A true 1/4 wave CB antenna should be roughly 9ft in length. A 1/4 wave vertical antenna has 0db in gain. Anything smaller than that and you are actually losing output power.
Now, my intention for the CB is to use it for bike to bike communications. I don't expect to talk to any truckers and probably never will which is probably why I will choose to purchase the J&M antennas or I may possibly just cut the stock antennas and build a new loading coil. I am a Ham operator and a RF Analyst as a Navy contractor.

Neither the J&M or the autozone antenna I tried worked as well as the long whip. But they both worked well enough when reception is good. When I am on the rode I listen to my cd or mp3 player anyway. The J&M doesn't bend much. Not sure how this will work when I want to use the sissy bar an luggage.
