Default 4 qts of oil? no way

Just did a 5k service on my 07 RK and it shows full (when hot) with only about 3 3/4 qts. of oil put in it. Is this normal (as the dealer would say)? If about 8 oz of old oil stayed in, it sure does not look like the oil that I drained out. After running about ten miles the oil is clean and at the full mark when hot.

If you put 4 quarts in ,it will blow at least 1/4 quart out of the air cleaner, I always set the oil level hot at 3/4 of the way up the dip stick

I do the same thing on my cars, too.

I keep the oil level (when hot) a little under full, but still above the fill line.

It's always better to have slightly too little oil than too much

Never had a problem just dumping 4 quarts in.

I agree...and if one forgets and adds all four quarts, usually the motor will quickly find its own comfortable oil level...and it's not a pretty sight!

I put in 4 quarts. A couple times my bike took about 3 3/4, but I believe it was because I did not get the engine up to operating temperature like I should have, and thereby not completely draining the old oil. In other words, I did the change in too big a hurry. When I take my time and do it right, the crankcase takes all four quarts without overfilling. Iusually check my oil level cold on the jiffy stand. The level is halfway up the stick. Occasionally I will do a hot check just to see where it's at, and sure enough, the oil is at the full level where it should be.

The dealer will put in 3.5 qts and charge for 4. Then they will use the 1/2 qt on the next service and still charge for 4. Then repeat. Helps with the profit margin.
