Three and three-quarters in my '96 EVO. Anymore and the oil plug gets ejected from the tank. Too bad the stealer hasn't figured that out yet.

book says 3.5 then check---- capacity in specifications says 4 qts so I have always used 4 on the 06 and now the 08 with filter change

Now that you are talking about it, my bike has never blown oil out of the air cleaner. Everyone talks like it is a normal thing and I haven't seen.

When I changed my mine not long ago, she took around3 3/4 quarts...I put in 3 1/2 then warmed it up and checked it. Added small amounts till she was on the money...

i do a hot drain and measure 3.75 qts on the install. never an issue. change every 5K and im 37K now

Just remember you still have oil in your crankcase too. just fill it up to the cold mark then run her until hot, check again and top off to full hot mark. Thats all. the bike will have 4 quarts in the whole engine, that includes ,crank and cam areas too.
