Default 2500 mile check up???

Howdy Folks,

I have a 2008 Ultra Classic nearing 2500 miles. I got my "1000 mile" checkup at 1500 miles. Can someone tell me if it is worth getting the 2500 mile check up or wait to the 5000 mile check up.

I just don't like bending over all that much.

Thanx
Mack

I just changed the oils at 500--(1000 let the dealer do this one)--2500. I am always cleaning the damn thing so i use that time to check everything else.

There is no such thing as a 2500 mile service in the service manual. Follow the service manual. Service(engine oil)at 1,000 miles, then 5,000, then 10,000 and so on. The 2008 service manual also schedules you only need to change the primary oil every 10,000 miles and the tranny fluid evey 20,000 miles.

if you're going to go to the dealer for the '2500' mile check, then you might just as well open up your wallet and let them have free reign. as posted, 5k is the service intervals. if your dealer is telling you to do something else, he is just trying to get more of your money.

Thanx for the input. I didn't check the service schedule. A fellow at work with a new Harley was saying he was getting a 2500 mile service. I was thinking this was to frequent between 1000 & 5000.

Thanx
Mack

I've seen dealers post prices for 2500 mile service... basically to pick the pocket of those not in the know.

Just change your motor oil & filter and you're good to go.

IVE HAD MANY HOGSOVER MANY YEARS..AND MANY JAP BIKES TOO 37YEARS NOW!!!

I NEVER LET THE DEALER DO A 1000 MILE "CHECK UP" NEVER..
ALWAYS DID THE FLUIDS MYSELF. 1ST AT 1000 THEN EVERY 5000

WHY LET THE DEALER DO A $55 JOB FOR $300???? JUST CHANGE THE FLUIDS AT THIS POINT EVERY 5000 MILES. ULL NEVER HAVE ANY ISSUES.. OIL IS OVER STRESSED ON THIS FORMUM ! ITS JUST NOT THAT CRITICAL.. (BRANDS / INTERVALS ETC)

I just had the 2500 mile service done on my 08 Ultra, but then I got the service program with the bike, so it was no cost to me. They did change oil and I notice the clutch is tighter now than it was....don't think it amounts to much, but since it didn't cost me anything I figured I might as week have it done....besides I was having them install the tourpak spoiler anyway (decided I didn't want to drill those holes myself). My dealership does go on a service interval of 2,500 miles, but I wouldn't do it if it was an out-of-pocket expense. The 10k service is the last one on the deal I got, so after that I'll do my own and switch to diffeent fluids....using Syn3 now as that is the best that comes free with the service plan.

You don't need anything special to change your fluids....You don't have to be mechanically inclined at all.....But, I would not go 5,000 miles between engine oil changes....I don't care if the book says it or not, that is the only true protection you can give your engine. Don't care if the oil is still good or not, for a few dollars, you can really make sure the engine stays good. Every 2500 for me, and when we take a 4,000 mile ride each summer, right before and after....
