I've always felt they like a little back pressure from some kind of baffle. Louder doesn't mean faster.

take them out and purchase a set of www.bigcitythunder.com for the head pipes. its just what you need for perfect back pressure and free flowing exhaust. You will love the sound if you like loud and deep. thats just my 2 cents, i've enjoyed mine. I am now going with a 2-1 for performance.

I forgot to mention that my bike didn't run lean at all with this set up. stock head pipes, hooker slip ons (no baffle), stage 1 with power commander. going with 2-1 and getting it tuned by speed shop, not local h-d.
