Default GPS Screen Visibility Question/Observation

I have just bought a TomTom Rider. Screen visibility with (prescription) sunglasses on was poor in bright sunlight. Lifted up my sunglasses and screen visibility was excellent. Have found the same thing with my Digital camera screen. My sunglasses are polarised. I am wondering if somehow they polarise the LCD screen eliminating some of the image. Any knowledge out there.

This is common while using polarized glasses. LCD screen and numbers will never show up well with those type of glasses. The benefits of polarized glasses can not be replaced tho. So, the unfortunate answer is to peak over your glassez for a good view of the screen!

You will also notice that some gaspump screens are hard to read with them on.

I wear polarized sunglasses and have the same problem. I do not know whether your Tom Tom has the ability to change the screen setting to nightime or not. If it does, try using the nighttime setting. The background is darker than the daytime setting and the letters are more visible.

I had this same issue with my Garmin Streetpilot III and Garmin recommended the nightime setting for outdoor use. I use the nightime setting all the time and it helps somewhat. I also have a sunshade on my GPS which helps the screen from washing out when the sun hits the screen at an angle.

Try tilting your head to the side. Polarized lenses forces light into a linar pattern. If you take 2 pieces of polarized filters and rotate them you can block our almost all light from passing through. It sounds like your eye glasses are the screen are at almost opposite orientations causing the same effect.
