07 Clutch Failure

RE: 07 Clutch Failure
Ifyoudon't think you can tackle the job yourself as SuperH suggests, and btw, its a pretty easy job, then EVIL is right. Talk to your buddies and get the name of alocal independentshop they use and trust. Since you're not riding now anyway, move the bike from CTHD to that shop you found. Those guys will try harder for you, and frankly will likely cut you some ($) slack because of your story and finally ther would love to grab a new customer.
Nowspend the rest of your time writing a letter the HD Corp Office Customer Complaints (Service) Department and cc your dealer. Be articulate, state your case and subsequent displeasure, and leave it at that.

scratching my head;
I wonder why HD did not say anything about a clutch spring upgradewhen they installed my stage 1, SERT, and exhaust system??

Mine went out on an 08 FLHX at 6K. It was due to using the Fuel Moto package (Power Commander) without adding the SE heavy spring. Fuel Moto needs to make it's customers aware of this issue as it set me back $450.00 for a clutch replacement.

a bumper-to-bumper warranty is just that...

The problem here is there's no way to prove whether the premature failure of the clutch was due to it being defective or the rider being hard on it.
BTW, I put thousands of miles on my Fat Boy after I installed a Power Commander and never had a minute's trouble with the bone stock clutch and clutch spring.

How screwed up is that clutch? A quick search of Dennis Kirk (I know, I know, it was just for price reference) shows friction sets from $40 to $130, & if you need the steels they're $45 to $65. I guess if they're gettin' you for $200 in parts & $300 in labor they can justify the bill, but anyone can stack plates in a clutch basket.
As another in this thread said, when you feel a clutch slip it's not time to test it or play with it, it's time to adjust it..............
