The newer SEII mufflers aren't too loud, but not as loud as your previous bike's mufflers.

The new muffs are EPA compliant, so don't expect much more in the way of sound from your existing stock mufflers.

First of all make your pipes so loud you can't hear your stereo then upgrade your stereo and so on

You might want to look into the www.fuelmotousa.com package.

There are a lot of folks who rally like their Stage I package.

I believe it consist of slip-on mufflers, K&N A/C, and a Power Commander fuel mamagement system that will come pre-programed.

I went a different route because I was going past Stage I.

I have an '07 Ultra, right outta the box I had the SE Stage 1 kit, Screamin' Eagle Street Performance Touring Mufflers, and the SE Remap done. The pipes provide a nice throaty sound at low RPM's, however they mellow out at higher speeds so as not to be annoying on a trip or interfere with the stereo. As far as the heat goes, I finally broke down and added the H-D mid frame air deflectors / heat shields. They have made a world of difference in the riding comfort.
