Default Thinking About Waxing Denim Paint? Dont...

....hesitate! I was sick and tired of scrubing the hell out of my paint to get bugs off. Denim is thin and I didnt want to rub through it. I treid all kinds of bug removers even one my old boss had for his plane and nothing worked. So, I started waxing it over the winter. After moving to Idaho, riding back and forth to work for the last month and a 300 miler with IdaSpud last weekend, I finally got the time to wash it and WOW what a difference. The bugs washed off without scrubbing. I didnt wash the bags with the bike yesterday so I washed them with just a wet towel today and same thing, a little rubbing and thier gone. So from now on I will be waxing my Pewter Denim.

I wouldNOT recomend it for the black since there is NO clear on the black but all the other denims have a satin clear.

The first couple of coats streaked a little bit but thats because the paint is SOOO dry and rough. And NO waxing it wont make it shinny, paint wont get any shinnier than the way its finished. Since denim is a rough satin clear it will just get a light sheen to it, which when the sun hits it looks REALY GOOD!

So if your sick and tired of how hard it is to get bugs off your Denim paint.....WAX IT!

hmmmmm.....I thought that the "denim" effect was just a flattener that they add to the clear coat? Thats the way Ducati does their Dark bikes as well.

The denim effect is achived by painting the bike a normal color and instead of using a high gloss clear coat the use a satin clear coat. There is no flattner to my knowlage.

Ya. I've got the dark blue denim, and waxed 'er for the same reason...little curious about how it'd look too.
Definitely cleans up better now, and yeah, it's shinier...but I think I prefer the dull finish.
To each their own I suppose.

for furniture finishing,'flattener' is the term for the stuff they add to gloss clear to make it satin or flat. all 3 finishes start with the same gloss base, gloss has no flatteners, satin has some flatteners, and flat has a lot of flatteners...I am sure it works the same for automotive applications.

You might want to check out some of the recent posts regarding the easy removal of bugs by using a 50/50 water/hydrogen peroxide solution. Just spray it on and the bugs disolve right before your eyes. Just hose 'em off. H2O2 will NOT damage any bike surfaces. You can even use ut as mouth wash...I kid you not. This might be the ideal way to clean off bugs from the flat paint.

You can also use it make bombs, too...that's why most of the UK had to suffer flight delays last summer..
