Default Fluid change time... Tricks and helps?

It's time for me to change the fluids and yes I have a shopmanual and even read through it.Here is what I'd like to know... any advice to keep things from spilling all over the bike? Also since this is my first HD, it doesn' t quite register about refilling the primary... once I remove the inspection plate is there a recepatcle to pour in the oil? The manual does not show this. If there is a link from some old posts or mags that reviewed this, that would be helpful... I bought the filter wrench -- any other special tools not covered in the book? Thanks!

I have a 88" I would think they would be the same. Use a narrow funnel to fill the primary. For the filter you can put foil under it so the oil will drain down it into your drain pan. The filter part can get a little messy, the rest wont.

Yep, I usually end up doing a wash job on the bike after changing the engine oil because I just can't seem to remove rthe filter without making a mess. Be aware that you have three drain plugs to deal with: engine oil, transmission oil, and primary oil - make sure you know which is which. The '07 sevice manual calls for 38oz in the primary, to be added through the clutch inspection plate (what is usually called the primary cover). It's a simple job that will save you lots of money!

yep the oil filter removal will/could be messy. I usually take the box the oil filter comes in and open it up flat and put under the old/original filter before removal. It makes a trough to let the oil flos over the floorboard into the drain pan. All other fluids are not a messy problem as they have a plug on the underside.
A funnel with a flexible spout works good for refilling the primary and tranny. Make sure it has a small outlet opoening as the tranny hole is small.

Bottom of cover facing out, in the same position as one of the screws that keep the cover on. I think it's a torx head, you will be able to tell the difference between the screws. On your 05 you might need a o ring, my 00 doesnt.
