Default RE: Highway Peg Mounts - long or short?

I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam. I first bought the longs, thinking the short ones wouldn't fit around the fairings, the parts manager thought I would need them because of my height. I couldn't get them into a comfortable position and bought the short ones, a much better fit for the position I wanted. Unfortunately I had destroyed the box for the long ones and couldn't return them, so I plan on selling them. The short ones fit around the lowers just fine.

I have a 32" inseam with a size 12 boot, and I use the short ones. I can place my boot heel on the floorboard and the toes on the peg at the same time. I have the height about equal to the rear brake pedal. Very comfortable and a nice change on a long ride as it provides another option for foot placement.
